Although the program
provides a generalist perspective, the flexibility of the curriculum allows
MBA students to concentrate in one of six career specializations.
Accounting
Concentration
The masters-level Concentration in Accounting curriculum
offers students an advanced study in the various areas of accounting,
including financial accounting theory, analysis of financial statements,
auditing and statistical sampling. The emphasis is on development of
strong analytical and quantitative skills.
Concentration Requirements:
To fulfill the requirements of the accounting concentration, students
must have the required accounting background, must complete the standard
MBA core curriculum and three masters-level
Accounting Electives for which they have the prerequisite background.
Finance
Concentration
The masters-level concentration in finance curriculum offers students
a strong foundation in the various areas of finance, including corporate
finance, investments, international finance and financial institutions.
This knowledge base is supplemented by case studies that provide applications
to real-world cases. The emphasis is on development of strong analytical
and quantitative skills that are readily applicable in finance-related
jobs. Students also gain valuable, practical experience in using computer
software applications in financial modeling.
Concentration Requirements:
To fulfill the requirements of the finance concentration, students
must complete the standard MBA core curriculum and three
Finance Electives.
Consulting
& Leadership Concentration
The masters-level Consulting & Leadership concentration prepares
students to take positions in consulting firms and other organizations
that will require exemplary leadership skills.
Students will make use of traditional methods of learning such as texts
and lectures. However, this concentration emphasizes hands-on practice
by means of simulations, student projects in local companies, cases, and
guest speakers. Extensive use will be made of communications technology
in the form of the Internet, computer-assisted decision-making, and virtual
teamwork to teach required technology skills.
Concentration Requirements:
To fulfill the requirements of the Consulting and Leadership concentration,
students must complete the standard MBA core curriculum and three
graduate LEAD courses.
MIS
Concentration
The masters-level management concentration in Management Information
Systems (MIS) is geared towards servicing the needs of students and their
prospective employers in two ways. First, the curriculum provides students
with marketable job skills by teaching them material that is of immediate
usefulness in entry-level positions. For example, students can gain depth
in the areas of software development using database technology (Access
and Oracle) and Visual Basic. Second, emerging trends and issues in IS
theory and applications are emphasized in order to better serve those
students who rise to managerial responsibility. Thus, students are prepared
to use their practical knowledge in a decision-making capacity.
Concentration Requirements:
Students must complete the standard MBA curriculum and three
masters-level MIS electives in order to fulfill the requirements of
the MIS concentration.
Marketing
Concentration
The masters-level concentration in Marketing provides students with both
a theoretical and a practical knowledge of marketing. The curriculum achieves
these ends by integrating practical applications with theoretical and
conceptual understanding. Examples include hands on computer usage, team
projects and case analysis, and marketing simulation games. In addition,
ethics and international issues are woven through the curriculum to further
enrich the students marketing background.
Concentration Requirements:
In order to fulfill the requirements of the concentration in marketing,
students must complete the standard MBA core curriculum and three
masters-level marketing (MKTG) courses.
Operations
Management Concentration
The masters-level Concentration in Operations Management curriculum offers
students a strong foundation in the various areas of operations management,
including process analysis, e-commerce and supply chain management, service
operations, analytical decision models, and decision support systems.
The emphasis is on development of strong analytical and quantitative skills
while giving students a process view of the enterprise. Students also
gain practical experience using software applications for process mapping,
simulation, and decision modeling.
Concentration Requirements:
To fulfill the requirements of the operations management concentration,
students must complete the standard MBA core curriculum and three
Operations Management Electives.
