Students
in the program complete the standard 130 credit curriculum for the BS
in Accounting or Management degree with the following modifications and
additions:
Additional
Writing Emphasis Requirement
The "C" designation
indicates a course where writing is emphasized. These courses are offered
across the curriculum. The Honors Program requires students to take at
least one additional "C" course beyond the two course SOM writing requirement
and serves to enhance writing ability. This also satisfies the GenEd requirement
in composition (C). - (4 credits)
Additional
SOM Requirements
The School of Management
requirements that are unique to the PWC Honors Program are designed to
enhance students' breadth and depth of knowledge in management and their
area of specialization. While it is not required, it is expected that
many of the participants in the PWC Honors Programs will have earned college
credit prior to their enrollment at Binghamton. These credits may partially
or fully offset the additional credit requirements. The honors students
augment their programs with the following additional requirements:
International
Business Requirement
IBUS 21 1: World of
Business. This course introduces students to the concepts, issues, theories,
and scope of international business. (for Accounting students) (4
credits)

Major
Area Requirement
Each Honors student
is expected to complete additional coursework in management or accounting
or a related area outside of the School. This additional course work can
include an additional elective in the major, a secondary concentration
(3 courses), or a minor (usually 6 courses) from outside of the School
of Management. Courses taken for a minor do not necessarily require additional
credits as they may be included in the 65 or more non-management credits
normally completed for the degree. - (4 credits)
Honors
Seminars
All PWC Honors Program
students participate in a series of Honors Seminars. Students enroll in
the seminar for each semester they are in the program. Seminars will involve
guest speakers from the community as well as from the School of Management.
Discussion will focus on current issues in management. Upper classmen
serve as seminar leaders, developing important leadership and organizational
skills. - (varying credits)

Other
Requirements
Participants in the
PWC Honors Program are expected to successfully complete a minimum of
sixteen credit hours per semester. They are also expected to maintain
and graduate with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. If a students cumulative
GPA is below 3.5 for two consecutive semesters, the student cannot continue
in the PWC Honors Program. Since honors course work can also be counted
towards the traditional SOM degrees, discontinuation of participation
in the PWC Honors Program does not normally result in additional course
work requirements or delay graduation.
